Have Regular Screening Tests for
Diabetes Complications
Your doctor will order a blood test called an Alc
every 3 to 6 months. The Alc number is an average
of what your diabetes control has been for a 3-month
period of time. The AIc is measured in a percent.
The normal A Ic is 4 to 6 for non diabetes. For diabetics it is best
if the AIc is below 7. Studies have shown that
complications of diabetes can be prevented if the AIc
is 7 or below
Your doctor will order a urine test for microalbumin at
least once a year. This can show if you have
early signs of kidney disease. lf this test is positive,
you may be able to take medicine to slow down
kidney damage.
