There are Two Types of Diabetes

TYPE I DIABETES
Type 1 Diabetes used to be known as 'Juvenile Diabetes". It usually occurs in
children or young adults. People with this type of diabetes need to take insulin
every day in order to live. They do not make insulin.

TYPE II DIABETES
Type 2 Diabetes used to be known as 'Adult onset" It most often occurs in
people over 35 years of age but now is being seen in some children and teenagers.
People with Type 2 diabetes still make insulin but there may nor be enough insulin
or the body cannot use the insulin effectively When the body cannot use insulin
effectively it is called insulin resistance. People with Type II diabetes need to
take diabetes pills or insulin or sometimes both pills and insulin for good blood sugar control.
